I am new to this author but woah. If all of her books are written like this one- she has gained a fan for life!
Pretty Spiteful is a spin-off of another of her series, Pacific Prep, however, you don't need to read that series before diving into this one. However, I would say I think it would really enrich the story. Wilder, Hawke, and Hadley are all in the previous ones (I'm assuming our girl Em makes an appearance too but I haven't read them so who knows.) I know that I will be going back to read them and get more of this world.
We start with Emilia who has a perfect life on paper, she's left her demons behind her. At least that's what she thought until it's revealed she has a stalker and she's thrust right back into the demon's lair. Of course, the monsters are beautiful men with "touch her and die" vibes, except for Wilder who is still hurt by what she did to him four years ago.
The writing itself was fantastic. The spice and everything were written to where it was hot and not cringy and yet had at times even a poetic notion. I wanted more. I'll always want more when the writing is good.
I loved all the characters, and that's rare since I usually almost always have a problem with a FMC, but I truly enjoyed Emilia. She had attitude, she had remorse, she faltered and she wasn't perfect. It was great.
Of course, our men: Wilder (our neighborhood psycho), Hawke (our beloved work a holic) and Kai (a man of mystery) was PERFECT! While Wilder takes a bit more to love, Hawke and Kai were immediate hits but even by the end of this book, I am still pro-Wilder.
This does end on a cliff hanger! I don't know what her readers did to deserve that ending but it is defiantly one for the books. I can't wait to read the next book, in the mean time I will be going to see what Pacific Prep has to offer.
